We bought the mill in 2006, thinking it was a near turn-key operation. The owner was "in distress", but we believed that we could almost turn up the heat, and open the doors. Far from it. Two furnaces bit the dust in the first 48 hours.

windowWhen we finally got the well "unfrozen", the pipes proved to be split throughout the building, and neglect showed its tired face in every corner. The former owner admitted that he hadn't done anything in the twelve years he'd owned it. The roof leaked, the fixtures were dated, and the insulation, where it existed, now needed to be removed as it posed possible respiratory risks. Within a month, it was obvious that we had to spend some serious time and money on some fairly major work.

face We decided right away that it was hugely important to us to maintain the historic attributes of the original building, and keep the renovations we did true to the period's architecture.
